Tatted Cupcake 2

Back when I sent out my first cupcake design, someone emailed me with a request to make a cupcake that wasn’t flattened on top. I guess when I make cupcakes, I have a tendency to push the cherry down instead of letting it sit on top. LOL!

So almost a year later, here’s another cupcake with a rounded top. I do like it much better, but I think it would be fun to make a bunch of both “flavors”.

This is a beginner pattern and requires one shuttle. It is about 3.25 inches wide (8 cm) by 3 inches tall (7 cm) when done with size 40 thread.

I used Lizbeth size 40 thread in color 613 Golden Yellow Medium, color 158 Niagara Falls, and color 671 Christmas Red.

Frosting

I have provided an “alternate” version of the frosting in this pattern. My sample is tatted with the alternate version, but the cupcake cupped (oh my…no pun intended) and didn’t lay flat. Tatting the regular design will solve that problem, but I just didn’t have the time to tat the whole thing over again. So I figured I’d give you instructions to make it sit right and alternate instructions that match the sample.

Start at red dot on visual pattern.

Cherry

This works best if you wind a few feet of thread onto your shuttle and begin stitching without cutting the ball thread away. Start at red dot on visual pattern.
R: 10ds p 7ds p 3ds, close
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, 7ds p 10ds, close, turn
Ch: 12ds lj to p on first R of cherry, 2ds, j to first p of Ch1 of frosting, 4ds j to last p of Ch1 of frosting, 10ds, lj to p on second R of cherry, 12ds, j to base of rings, do not turn
Ch: 15ds, push stitches snugly together to make the chain curve.
Cut and tie.
