Floral quilted wall hanging

This is a series of five little quilts that I've hung on one long curtain rod. My stairwell turns halfway up and the wall there was bare and boring. When I saw these patterns, I knew I had to have them, even though I really do try to practice restraint. I knew they were perfect for my stairwell. The patterns are from Bee Creative Studios.

These were my first freezer paper applique projects. Amazing how much easier it is to applique that way! They were also my first projects using any kind of free motion quilting. I did a large stipple on the black sections. That was a challenge. I did it using my 27-year-old Kenmore. I had to buy some special attachments and an adapter, but it was worth it.

I liked these enough to put them in the county fair this past year (2007) just for kicks. I wanted some feedback. I was totally surprised when I learned that not only did I get first place in the machine quilted wall-hanging category, I got a reserve champion ribbon in the overall wall-hanging category!

A side note...these little quilts really are nice and square. Darn camera.
