Bethany's baby quilt

Bethany's baby quilt

When I started this quilt, someone asked me if I realized what I was doing. Bethany is my niece, and the first one of my nieces and nephews to have a baby. I have 38 nieces and nephews. Yep, I knew what I was doing. I know now that I've done this I'll have to make baby quilts for the remaining 37 plus for my own kids, but that's OK with me! Baby quilts are fun and fast.

I used a butterfly applique pattern I found at the McCall's Quick Quilts site and pinwheels for this quilt. Once it was pieced, I wasn't too sure about it. But when I did the actual quilting, it made all the difference. I meandered in all the white area, and it came out looking like butterfly paths, and the pinwheels look more like flowers. It's hard to see in a photograph. Then I did a leaf pattern in the border. This free-motion stuff is starting to work for me!
