The center of this "monthly" doily is made from November's snowflake. This month I've added row 4, which taught me that no matter how long I've been tatting, I have new things to learn. In row 2, I used the shoelace trick. I found the clover leaves sitting on top of the chains in that row did not lay smoothly. That was rather frustrating. On row 4, I went back to using two shuttles and also left just a tiny bit of thread between the clover leaf and the chain. I was a whole lot happier with the results. The tatting below on the left is using the shoelace trick. The tatting on the right uses two shuttles.
By the way, I've just steamed this doily at this point. I haven't blocked it. When I finish the whole doily and block it, then you'll see what a difference it makes to take the time to block your work, too.
This doily was tatted with size 30 DMC Cebelia thread.
This is an intermediate-level 2-shuttle pattern using simple rings and chains.
