I made this fun little kitty as a Christmas ornament for a friend. She has two cats that she seems to really enjoy, and I thought she'd like one for her tree, too.
This pattern was tatted with size 30 DMC Cebelia thread. Completed size is about 1.5 inches tall.
This is a beginner-level 1-shuttle pattern using simple rings and chains.

You will need:
Tatting thread in your choice of color, size 20 or 30
1 tatting shuttle
Body
R: (3ds p) 5 times 3ds, close, turn.
*Ch: (2ds p) 7 times 2ds turn.
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R (3ds p) 3 times 3ds, close, turn.*
Repeat between * until you have four rings completed.
Ch: (2ds p) 7 times 2ds turn.
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R 3ds j to center p of first R (3ds p) 2 times 3ds, close, do not turn.
Ch: (2ds p) 10 times 2ds. Cut and tie.
Head
Start your first R about 4-5" from the end of the thread and do not hide the thread end.
R: 3ds j to 2nd to last p on 2nd Ch. Be sure the cat's tail is facing down when you make the join. (2ds p) 4 times 3ds, close, do not turn.
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 2 times 2ds lp 2ds p 2ds lp (2ds p) 3 times 3ds, close, do not turn.
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R, (2ds p) 2 times j to 2nd p on next Ch on body, 2ds p 3ds close.
Cut and tie. Leave thread ends. Cut another 8-10" length of thread. String it through the two bottom R of the head and tie on same side as ending knot. Trim threads to 1" long.
