Now that it's spring here and we have more sunlight, and because this is such a bright, happy edging, it reminds me of sunshine. This is a very flexible edging, so you can put it on a straight edge or a rounded one such as this 4" cotton doily.
As you can see, I haven't finished enough of this edging to go around the doily yet. I scanned the edging and doily together so you can get an idea of what it will be like when it's finished. When I get the whole thing finished, I'll update this page. This doily will go under a rather modern sculpture of a flute player that is sitting on my piano.
This edging was tatted with size 20 Flora thread.
This pattern is beginner to intermediate and requires 1 shuttle.

Tatting thread in your choice of color, size 20 or 30
1 tatting shuttle
R: (5ds p) 3 times 5ds, close
*Leave 1/4" (3mm) of thread
R: 4ds j to last p of previous R (4ds p) 2 times, 4ds, close
R: 3ds j to last p of previous R 5ds p (1ds p) 2 times, 5ds p 3ds, close
R: 4ds j to last p of previous R (4ds p) 2 times, 4ds, close
lj to the 1/4" left between the first and second rings
R: 5ds j to last p of previous R (5ds p) 2 times, 5ds, close and turn
Leave 1/2" (6mm) of thread
R: (4ds p) 3 times, 4ds, close, turn
Leave 1/2" (6mm) of thread
R: 5ds p 5ds j to middle p of corresponding R 5ds p 5ds, close*
Repeat between * for as long as you wish the edging to be.
