Tatting: Field of Clover Doily

We've finally reached the last row of this doily! I've always wondered why the last row seems to take such a long time. But it's done, and those of us who have worked on this doily each month can each feel a sense of accomplishment. I certainly feel like I've accomplished something every time I finish a doily.

I find it interesting as I design how the pattern never ends up as I envisioned. It's close, but I had surprises along the way. I didn't plan the last row to have ten straight edges, but it does. I also didn't plan that the white space between the last two rows looks like butterflies. That was a happy surprise.

One thing I learned as I designed this doily is that it's hard to stop adding rows. For each row I added, I had an idea for the next. But you do have to stop at some point unless you want to create a tablecloth, and I know I'm not up for that.

This doily was tatted with size 30 DMC Cebelia thread.

This is an intermediate-level 2-shuttle pattern using simple rings and chains.
