Tatted Doily

This design is beginner level and uses one shuttle. I used size 20 Magenta Flora thread (color 218).

Finished size of the doily using size 20 thread is approximately 6 inches (15 cm) across.

You will need:

Thread in your choice of color and size.
1 tatting shuttle

ds	double stitch	p	picot
j	join

Instructions:

Round 1

R: (3ds p) 5 times, 3ds, close.
Start the next ring 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the last. I measured from my fingertip to the first joint of my finger.
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds, close.
Repeat the last R until a total of 7 rings are formed, leaving 1" between each ring.
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, 3ds p 3ds j to 2nd p of first R, 3ds p 3ds, close.
Cut and tie.

Round 2

R: (3ds p) 2 times, 3ds j to any loop between rings on the previous round, (3ds p) 2 times, 3ds, close.
Repeat around, starting each ring 2 inches (5 cm) away from the last and each time joining to the next loop available. I measured from my fingertip to the second joint of my finger.
Cut and tie.

Round 3

Scallop:
R: (3ds p) 5 times, 3ds, close, turn.
*Ch: (3ds p) 5 times, 3ds, turn
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds, close, turn*
Repeat between * until a total of 5 rings are formed. This completes one scallop.

**Ch: (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds, turn
R: (3ds p) 2 times, 3ds j to any loop between rings on the previous round, (3ds p) 2 times, 3ds, close, turn
Ch: 3ds j to last p of previous Ch, (3ds p) 2 times, 3ds, turn**

Repeat the scallop and between ** around.
Cut and tie.
