Tatting: Tatted Doily row 4

Here's row 4! This one has been a challenge to get done during the Christmas season, so it's a bit late and I apologize. I think the doily is quite pretty at this stage, but there's actually more to come.

I'm including all four rows of this pattern on this page. This way if you didn't get the previous newsletters, you'll still have the pattern for the whole doily so far.

Also, there was an error on the written instructions for row 1, which I've corrected on this page. I'd written in one extra picot on the larger rings.

This is a beginner pattern and requires one shuttle. If you don't wish to use the shoelace trick on rows two and four, you'll need two shuttles. I used Lizbeth size 40 thread.

Thread in your choice of color and size.
1 tatting shuttle

dsdouble stitch

Instructions:

Row 1

R: 4ds p 3ds p (1ds p) 2 times, 3ds p 4ds, close
*R: 4ds j to last p of previous R, 3ds p 2ds p 1ds long p 1ds p 2ds p 3ds p 4ds, close
R: 4ds j to last p of previous R, 3ds p (1ds p) 2 times, 3ds p 4ds, close*
Repeat between * until three of the large rings and four of the small rings are complete.
R: 4ds j to last p of previous R, 3ds p 2ds p 1ds p 1ds long p 1ds p 2ds p 3ds j to first p of first R, 4ds, close
Cut and tie.

Row 2

+R: (3ds p) 5 times, 3ds, close, turn
*Ch: 5ds p 3ds p 1ds p 1ds long p 3ds p 5ds, turn
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds close, turn*
Repeat between * until five rings have been completed.
Ch: 5ds p 3ds p 1ds p 1ds long p 3ds p 5ds, turn
R: 3ds p 3ds j to 4th p of previous R, 3ds p 3ds j to 2nd p of first ring, 3ds p 3ds, close, do not turn, sl
Ch: (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds j to long p of large ring on row 1, (3ds p) 3 times, 3ds, do not turn, sl+
Repeat between + around. Cut and tie.

R: 4ds p 3ds p (1ds p) 2 times, 3ds p 4ds, close
R: 4ds j to last p of previous R, 3ds p 2ds p 1ds long p 1ds p 2ds p 3ds p 4ds, close
R: 4ds j to last p of previous R, 3ds p (1ds p) 2 times, 3ds p 4ds, close
R: 4ds j to last p of previous R, 3ds p 2ds p 1ds long p j to last p of first Ch in one of the motifs on row 2, 2ds p 3ds p 4ds, close
